You have probably already been approached.

A trade buyer, or somebody who would not quite say who they were working for, asking whether you had ever thought about selling.

Almost nobody who takes that call knows what the business would actually fetch. Fewer still know what would quietly come off the price before it completes.

Three years out, nearly all of it is still fixable. Nobody tells you that, because nobody in the process gets paid to be there three years early.

I spent several years on the other side of that call, buying food and drink businesses. I know what comes off a price, because I took it off.

Exit preparation for food and drink owners

Three Years Out

For owners of UK food and drink manufacturers and wholesalers turning over £3m to £15m, three to five years from selling. What a buyer will quietly take off your price, itemised on your own figures, while there is still time to take it back.

Everyone else in your exit gets paid when the deal completes. I do not.

My fee is fixed, agreed upfront, and identical whether you sell for £4m or £8m, or never sell at all. No fee I earn, anywhere in my business, depends on your company being sold, to anyone, ever.

I have no financial reason to tell you anything other than what I would tell a buyer.
